If you like to hike or walk and don't yet know the trails in Dufferin County, then Nicola Ross has a surprise for you. Bordering Caledon and Peel Region is Dufferin, the "high county", as it's known, with a fraction of Caledon's traffic, fewer houses, deeper valleys and dirt roads that go nowhere. As with all guides in the Loops & Lattes series, Dufferin Hikes: Look & Lattes describes routes that conveniently start and end at the same location. Ranging in length from 2.2 to 21 kilometres, each of the guidebook's 32 hikes is accompanied by a detailed map, precise directions, loads of colour photos, a smattering of local lore and suggestions about what to do after you finish. Lattes anyone?
Born and raised in Belfountain, Nicola spent her summers exploring the Forks of the Credit and other parts of the Niagara Escarpment. Her passion for the landscape resulted in Nicola creating the Caledon Countryside Alliance in order to keep the countryside in Caledon’s hills. A biology graduate from the University of Guelph, Nicola soon discovered a pen was her preferred tool. The award-winning author five books, including “Caledon” and “Dufferin County,” Ross is also a regular contributor to In the Hills magazine. She has also published articles in the Walrus, The Globe and Mail, Explore magazine, Ontario Nature, Harrowsmith Country Life and more. Formerly, the editor-in-chief of Alternatives Journal, Canada’s national environmental magazine, Ross is now pursuing her love of writing, travel and sport on a full time basis.
