Rather, his paintings of forest fauna and flora, colorful canyons, teeming coral reefs, and, above all, brilliant birds, emphasize hard-edged simplicity. Harper’s simple geometric shapes, patterns, and vivid colors succinctly express the essence of each creature he portrayed.
Harper’s posters have been published by more than fifty nature- and conservation-oriented organizations, including this one, his first, for the Cincinnati Nature Center in 1977. They have become some of his most enjoyed works—skillful and playful menageries of local wildlife.
