Getting Ready for Winter

|

The extended fall weather has made it possible for late migrants to linger, mingling with our local residents. It’s not too late to get your feeders up and to perhaps add another type that will appeal to specific species. On a brand basis, Brome’s Squirrel Buster feeders eliminate the problem of squirrels monopolizing access. Feeders for suet blocks attract chickadees, nuthatches, woodpeckers and where present, even Carolina Wrens.

The same birds also love shelled peanuts dispensed from a cylindrical feeder with holes large enough for the birds to peck through but small enough so the peanuts don’t fall out.  I’ve found this to be one of the most efficient and economical ways to feed those species of birds. There is zero waste, the birds don’t grab and go and I only need to fill it every few weeks. It is a winner all around.

Happy birding!
