Handmade Downy Woodpecker Birdhouse

$74.95

Description

Hand made in Canada from white pine, this house is ready to withstand the elements. Joints have been screwed and glued to provide added strenth and rooflines are caulked to prevent leaking. All walls are scored to provide easy footholds and the front opens downward by turning the latch on the top right side to allow for cleaning and maintenance. The Downy Woodpecker is America's smallest and most common woodpecker. They are social birds, often seen in the company of other species including chickadees, nuthatches, titmice and wrens. The Downy Woodpecker may use your house in the winter to escape the cold so you may want to consider leaving it up year round. Habitat: Prefers open, deciduous forests including orchards, parks, and suburbs. They may also nest in open areas with tall weeds fence rows. Houses should be mounted about 15 feet high if possible. Add some wood chips to the bottom of the nest box to make it look more natural.
